Biography of District Governor

Lion Sanjay Awasthi, MJF was elected to serve as District Governor of District 322E at the 39th Annual District Conference held on May 29, 2020 at Bettiah.

Born on 19th April 1970 at Roorkee in Uttar Pradesh, Lion Sanjay did his schooling in Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir. His father Late G.N. Awasthi was in the Indian Army and was posted in various parts of India. He completed his Graduation (Honours) in Commerce from Vaniya Mahavidalaya of Patna University. After completing his graduation he got a job in India Railways but instead he chose to set up his own Advertising and Event Management firm and became a successful businessman.

Lion Sanjay joined lionism on 1st April, 2000 and was elected as Secretary of Lion Club of Patliputra Ashok. In LY 2004-05, Lion Sanjay Awasthi was elected as Charter President of L.C. Patna Takshila. He was elected as Predident of Patna Takshila once again in LY 2005-06 and took his home club to newer heights with his leadership ability and innovative service activities.

Lion Sanjay was one of the pillars of the very popular District Lionutsav program and District Fund Raising activity, Bhagyashali Danpatra Yojana for four consecutive years, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05.

In 2007-08 he served very successfully as District Cabinet Secretary and in 2009-10 he was nominated as Region Chairperson. In 2014-15 he expressed his desire to serve as a District Chairperson - Environment and his term is still remembered as memorable one with innovative environment projects and a grand seminar on Environment. He has great bonding with his friends and well wishers and to plant a sapling on their birthdays and anniversaries. This movement was very much liked by the members which is still going on. In LY 2017-18 he was chosen as District GLT Coordinator.

Lion Sanjay attended the Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI) in 2006 at Clalsa (WB) and Advanced Lions Leadership Instutute (ALLI) in 2018 at Colomo (Srilanka). He Became a Melvin Jones Fellow (MJF) in 2014-15.

He has won the following awards in his Lionistic Career:

  1. Outstanding Lion of the Multiple in 2007-08
  2. International President-s Leadership Medal in 2007-08 and second time in 2017-18

Due to his Army family background, Lion Sanjay is a very disciplined person and he received his A, B and C certificates of NCC. He is very adventurous and on 18 October 1986 climbed the 21000 feet Manali mountain, trekked for 2 times and crossed the River Vyas (Himachal Pradesh) with the help of rope. For Aids awareness he undertook a cycle tour Patna to Delhi in January 1999. He has donated blood 68 times. He believes in the lions slogan of Lions are Global, Lions are Local, We are Lions. With the help of his friends spread across 11 Districts he donated boat, school bags, shoes, socks and books to school students of Machakia village in Kaimur district of Bihar for 2 years. The students had to cross a river and had to attend school in their wet clothes. The Boat has served as a perfect gift to these small childen who are now continuing their schooling with comfort.

Lion Sanjay Awasthi is happily married to Lion Anshu who is also a member of his home club. She is a News Reader in Patna Doordarshan and All India Radio. He is blessed with a son, Ujesh who is a student of class X in St. Michael's High School, Digha Ghat, Patna.
